Why Youth Futures Education Fund? Helping Youth Achieve their Potential
The Youth Futures Education Fund helps create equal educational opportunities for young adults who have been in government care.
How They Help
At the age of 19, youth in care “age out” of the foster care system and subsequently lose all support from their foster families, social workers, and government programs. Although they are eligible for a tuition waiver, the loss of this assistance makes pursing post-secondary education much more challenging.
Why it Matters
Recognizing the vital role that education plays in helping people fulfil their potential, Youth Futures provides financial assistance to hundreds of post-secondary students in British Columbia who grew up in government care. They provide low-barrier access to funds to support living expenses, school supplies purchases and other financial requirements for these students.
The Youth Futures Education Fund was collaboratively established by: Coast Capital, The Province of British Columbia, and the Office of the Representative for Children and Youth. The Youth Futures Education Fund is guided by an Advisory Committee, held at the Vancouver Foundation and is administered by United Way British Columbia – working with communities in BC’s Interior, Lower Mainland and Central & Northern Vancouver Island.
